Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Version: Director's Insights on Mods and DLC
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi recently shared insights into the PC version of the game, addressing player interest in potential DLC and the modding community. The full interview appeared on the Epic Games blog on December 13th.
DLC: A Matter of Player Demand
While the development team initially considered adding episodic DLC to the PC release, resource constraints led them to prioritize completing the final installment of the Remake trilogy. Hamaguchi stated that adding new content is not currently planned, but he is open to considering player requests. Substantial player demand could influence a future decision regarding DLC.
A Message to Modders: Creativity with Responsibility
The game lacks official mod support, but Hamaguchi acknowledged the inevitable interest from the modding community. He expressed respect for their creativity but urged them to refrain from creating or distributing offensive or inappropriate content.
The potential for mods to enhance the game experience, adding new features and improved visuals, is recognized. However, Hamaguchi’s request for responsible modding reflects the need to maintain a positive and respectful gaming environment.
PC Version Enhancements
The PC version boasts graphical improvements, including enhanced lighting and texture resolutions, addressing previous concerns about the "uncanny valley effect" in character faces. Higher-resolution 3D models and textures, exceeding the PS5's capabilities, are also included for higher-spec systems. Adapting the mini-games for PC proved challenging, requiring unique key configuration settings.
The PC version of FF7 Rebirth launches January 23rd, 2025, on Steam and the Epic Games Store. This follows the PS5 release on February 9th, 2024, which was met with widespread critical acclaim.
