CD Projekt Red is setting a new standard for NPC development in The Witcher 4. Following feedback on Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3, the studio aims to create a truly immersive world populated by believable characters.

Game director Sebastian Kalemba outlined their approach: “Our guiding principle is that every NPC should feel like they have their own life and story.”

This vision is evident in the debut trailer, showcasing the secluded village of Stromford. Villagers adhere to local superstitions, venerating a forest deity. A scene depicts a girl praying in the woods until Ciri arrives to battle a creature.

Kalemba further emphasized their commitment to realism: “We're striving for the most realistic NPCs possible – from their appearance and facial expressions to their behavior. This will significantly enhance immersion. We're aiming for unprecedented quality.”

Developers promise unique characteristics and narratives for each village and inhabitant, reflecting the cultural nuances and beliefs of isolated communities.

The Witcher 4's 2025 release date has fans eagerly anticipating further revelations about the game's innovative world and character design.
