Gacha mechanics are a pivotal element of Honkai Star Rail, and it appears that miHoYo, now known as HoYoverse, is set to enhance player control over character pulls. Recent leaks hint at substantial modifications to the banner system starting with version 3.2, presenting a novel way for players to engage with the game's gacha mechanics.
According to insider insights from Sakura Haven, the forthcoming 3.2 update will introduce a customizable pity system for limited banners. This innovation allows players to move beyond the traditional 50/50 pity pull system tied to a fixed pool of characters. Instead, players can now pick their preferred characters from a curated set, which can either partially or completely replace the standard pool. This adjustment empowers players with greater control over their potential rewards.

Currently, the 50/50 pity pool includes 7 standard characters. However, with the 3.2 update, this will shift to a 'Group' from which players can choose. You'll select 7 characters from this 'Group,' which will then constitute your personalized 50/50 pity pool. This means that if you don't win your desired character in a 50/50 roll, you'll receive one from your custom pool rather than the default set.
The 'Group' will initially comprise the 7 standard characters along with a limited selection of additional characters for you to choose from.
This update has the potential to greatly improve the player experience by minimizing frustration and offering more flexibility. By enabling players to customize their pity pool, miHoYo is tackling one of the most frequent criticisms of gacha systems: the unpredictability of losing pity rolls. With the ability to target specific characters, players will have a better shot at acquiring units that align with their playstyle or preferences.
Yet, it remains unclear which characters will be available in the selectable pool. There's uncertainty about whether it will include past limited characters, current banner units, or entirely new additions.
The proposed changes underscore miHoYo's commitment to refining Honkai Star Rail and making it more player-friendly. By introducing a customizable pity system, the developers are recognizing the significance of player choice in gacha games. This initiative could establish a new benchmark for how similar systems are crafted in other games.
While the precise execution and impact of this feature are yet to be fully revealed, the announcement has already generated excitement within the community. Fans are eagerly anticipating how these changes will enhance their gameplay experience when Honkai Star Rail 3.2 is released.
