Noir: High-Quality USB Camera Viewer & HDMI Display App

Turn your Android device into a portable monitor for cameras, gaming consoles, laptops, PCs, and more! Noir requires an HDMI to USB-C dongle (a UVC capture device or video capture card—not a USB-C hub or USB-C to HDMI cable) to function. It also supports USB streaming cameras, endoscopes, and microscopes. Noir uses UVC video and UAC audio streaming, with OpenGL ES and Vulkan graphics options.

The free version offers core functionality and an immersive experience (with ads, but not in the preview). Upgrade to the pro version for advanced features and to support ongoing development.

Key Use Cases:

  1. Camera Monitoring: Pro features include LUTs, histogram, and edge detection.
  2. Primary Monitor (Gaming Consoles & PCs): Pro features include visual effects, brightness/contrast adjustment, app-specific volume control, and FSR 1.0.
  3. Secondary Monitor (Laptops): Extend your workspace seamlessly.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

  1. Device Recognition Issues: Check if your device supports USB Host (OTG) and if you're using a video capture card (not just a hub or cable). Insufficient power might require a powered USB hub.

  2. Laggy Preview: This often stems from USB version compatibility. Use USB 3.0 cables and ports for USB 3.0 capture cards. For USB 2.0 cards, use MJPEG format and stick to 1080p30fps (some cards support 1080p50fps).

  3. Sudden Connection Failures: Restart your device. This often resolves system-level issues.

  4. Black Screen (Gaming Consoles/Video Playback): Disable HDCP in your console's settings (Settings -> System -> HDMI). Note: PS3 doesn't allow HDCP disabling. HDMI splitters that bypass HDCP exist but are not officially recommended.

  5. Unsupported Aspect Ratios: Most capture cards only support 16:9 and 4:3. Use Noir's stretch feature to adjust, but ensure your capture card's EDID and device output support the chosen ratio.
