Released in March 2023, the Sony Bravia XR X93L was positioned as the second-highest-end non-OLED TV in Sony’s lineup at that time, sitting just below the flagship X95L (which was exclusively available in an 85" size in the U.S.). The X93L features Mini LED technology, which shines when handling HDR content. As its name implies, these LED-backlit panels use an array of LEDs capable of independent on/off switching to enhance black levels and contrast ratios. In a Mini-LED setup, the LEDs are smaller and more numerous, allowing for precise brightness control within individual scenes.
The X93L also serves as an excellent gaming television. It features four HDMI ports, two of which support the HDMI 2.1 standard. This specification allows for 4K output at refresh rates up to 120Hz, making it ideal for current-generation consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. While the upcoming Switch 2 will be limited to 60fps in 4K when docked, meaning HDMI 2.1 isn't strictly necessary for that system, the port selection remains robust.
Android smartphone users will appreciate Sony’s adoption of the reliable Google TV smart interface. It is intuitive, functional, and even allows you to use your Android device as a remote control.
