Stellar Blade Director Aims for Grand Prize in Future Games
SHIFT UP's Stellar Blade was the standout winner at the 2024 Korea Game Awards, clinching seven major accolades, including the prestigious Excellence Award. The awards ceremony, hosted at the Busan Exhibition & Convention Center (BEXCO), celebrated the game's exceptional achievements in Game Planning/Scenario, Graphics, Character Design, and Sound Design. Stellar Blade also earned the Outstanding Developer Award and the Popular Game Award.
This latest victory marks the fifth time Stellar Blade Director and SHIFT UP CEO Kim Hyung-tae has been part of a winning team at the Korea Game Awards. His previous triumphs include Magna Carta 2 for Xbox 360 and the 1999 game The War of Genesis 3 during his tenure at Softmax. Additionally, he contributed to Blade and Soul as Art Director at NCSoft in 2012, and to SHIFT UP’s Goddess of Victory: Nikke in 2023.
"When we first created Stellar Blade, many people were skeptical about our ability to produce a successful console game in Korea," Kim Hyung-tae remarked during his acceptance speech, as reported by the Korean news outlet Econovill and translated via Google. "Thanks to the dedication of our team and the support from game officials, we've achieved remarkable results."
While Stellar Blade narrowly missed the Grand Prize, which was awarded to Netmarble’s Solo Leveling: ARISE, SHIFT UP remains steadfast in their commitment to the game's future. Kim Hyung-tae assured fans, "Stellar Blade is far from finished. We're planning numerous updates, so stay tuned. Our next game will be even better, and we aim to secure the grand prize."
