Spider-Man 2 Debuts to 'Mixed' Steam Reviews Amid Serious PC Performance Problems

Author : Stella Mar 16,2025

Spider-Man 2's PC port, initially touted for its surprisingly good performance based on its system requirements, has received a mixed reception on Steam. A significant portion of user reviews express frustration with various technical issues, resulting in a current positive rating of only 55%.

Many players, even those with high-end GPUs like the RTX 4090, report frequent crashes. One user described the game as "completely unplayable," experiencing crashes every five minutes. Another stated the game's performance is so poor they are seeking a refund. Reviewers describe the problems as ranging from lighting glitches and extremely low frame rates in cutscenes, to audio desynchronization, freezing, stuttering, and other significant performance issues.

A common error message points to display driver problems, suggesting outdated drivers, overly demanding in-game settings, GPU overheating, or a game-specific error. Users are advised to update drivers and lower settings.

Beyond crashes, several other problems plague the game. DLSS and ray tracing functionalities are reportedly malfunctioning. Long loading times, missing textures, and persistent audio issues are also frequently cited. Some players claim performance stutters worsen after extended gameplay, eventually leading to crashes, with speculation of a memory leak as a potential cause.

Nixxes Software, the port developer, acknowledged the issues on the Steam forums, directing users to their support website for troubleshooting guides. They request users experiencing problems submit logs and crash dumps to expedite investigation. Nixxes also confirmed awareness of a bug affecting photo-op missions, recommending lowering graphics settings or resolution as a temporary workaround if frame rates dip below 20 FPS.
