Initially announced in 2018, Proxi was shrouded in mystery until last month when Gallium Studio released a "not-a-trailer-trailer." Now, with Wright's recent appearance on a Twitch livestream hosted by BreakthroughT1D, the game's development is clearly in full swing.
BreakthroughT1D, a leading organization dedicated to funding research for a cure for type 1 diabetes, utilizes its Twitch channel to collaborate with the gaming community to raise awareness and funds. Their Dev Diaries series features interviews with game developers, exploring their connection to T1D and sharing their development experiences. The latest episode showcased Will Wright, renowned for The Sims and SimCity.
During the livestream, Wright provided a comprehensive overview of Proxi's core concept. Proxi is an "AI life sim built from your memories," allowing players to input their real-life experiences in paragraph form. The game then transforms these memories into animated scenes, which players can customize using in-game assets to better represent their memories. Each added memory, termed a "mem," enhances the game's AI, integrating into the player's "mind world"—a 3D environment composed of hexagonal structures that can be explored and interacted with.
As players continue to add memories, their mind world grows, filling with "Proxies" of friends and family. These memories can be organized on a timeline and linked to different Proxies to accurately depict events and participants. Furthermore, Proxies can be exported to other game worlds, such as Minecraft and Roblox, enhancing the game's versatility.
The essence of Proxi is to forge "magical connections with memories and bring them to life." Wright's vision for this game was to create a deeply personal experience, leveraging memories as the central theme. He humorously remarked, "I found myself getting continuously closer and closer to the player.
