Persona and Metaphor: ReFantazio Composer Leads New Tactical Stealth RPG
Guns Undarkness Will Launch Demo At Steam Next Fest
Get ready, gamers! Guns Undarkness is set to unveil its free demo during the upcoming Steam Next Fest, marking an exciting moment for fans of tactical stealth RPGs. Spearheading this project is none other than Shoji Meguro, the renowned composer behind the Persona series and Metaphor: ReFantazio. Joining him are the talented Ghost in the Shell character artist Ilya Kuvshino and the dynamic rapper Lotus Juice, famous for his contributions to Persona 3.
Shoji Meguro, who started his illustrious career at Atlus in 1995, has left an indelible mark on the gaming world with his music for the Shin Megami Tensei and Persona series. In 2021, Meguro ventured into indie game development while still collaborating with Atlus. His latest endeavor, a Sci-Fi Stealth Action JRPG, is being published under Kodansha Game Creators Lab.
Guns Undarkness first caught the public's eye at Indie Live Expo Winter 2021 and successfully met its Kickstarter goals in 2022. The eagerly anticipated free demo will be available at Steam Next Fest on February 24, 2025, with the full game slated for Early Access later in the year.
Inspired by Metal Gear Solid and Persona
Described on its Steam page as a "turn-based tactical JRPG inspired by games like Metal Gear Solid and Persona," Guns Undarkness thrusts players into a dystopian world on the brink of collapse in the year 2045. As part of a private military company, you'll embark on critical missions with your allies, uncovering the secrets that could save humanity.
The gameplay in Guns Undarkness splits into two key elements: stealth and combat. In stealth mode, players must navigate environments undetected, gaining a strategic advantage in battles when they choose to engage enemies. Combat is turn-based, allowing players to issue commands and utilize various firearms to triumph over foes.
The demo for Guns Undarkness promises around 20 minutes of gameplay, including a tutorial on basic controls, the battle system, weapons, and early-game strategies. The game is scheduled for an Early Access release in Spring 2025, offering approximately 10 hours of playtime on PC. While the exact release date remains under wraps, the anticipation continues to build.
