Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Player Numbers Break Records Again and Again

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) has shattered its own concurrent player records on Steam daily since launch. This article delves into the game's remarkable success and its planned future updates.

KCD2's Triumphant Opening Weekend

Over 250,000 Concurrent Steam Players and Climbing

As of February 9th, 2025, KCD2 boasted over 250,000 concurrent Steam players, peaking at 256,206 according to Creative Director Daniel Vávra's Twitter (X) announcement. Each day from February 4th to 9th witnessed a new record:

  • February 4th - 159,351 concurrent players
  • February 5th - 176,285 concurrent players
  • February 6th - 185,582 concurrent players
  • February 7th - 190,194 concurrent players
  • February 8th - 233,586 concurrent players
  • February 9th - 256,206 concurrent players

Estimates suggest nearly 890,000 Steam sales alone. Currently, KCD2 holds the #2 spot on Steam's top-selling games list (behind Counter-Strike 2) and #5 on the most-played list (following CS2, Dota 2, Marvel Rivals, and Banana). With 1 million copies sold on launch day, KCD2 is potentially nearing 2 million total sales.

KCD2's Unwavering Commitment to Detail

Warhorse Studios' meticulous attention to detail is a key factor in KCD2's success. Building upon the series' reputation for realism (rotting food, soiled clothing, sword sharpening, etc.), KCD2 introduces further immersive elements.

Senior Game Designer Ondřej Bittner highlighted a new stealth mechanic to GamesRadar: accumulating dirt leads to a "body odor" debuff, alerting nearby NPCs to the player's presence.

The introduction of "handgonnes," historically accurate early firearms, adds another layer of authenticity. Bittner (speaking with PC Gamer) emphasized the weapons' historical inaccuracy, long reload times, and inherent danger, acknowledging their potential as "meme weapons."

PR Manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling clarified the studio's approach: prioritizing an engaging and enjoyable experience while striving for historical plausibility.

The Post-Launch Roadmap

Warhorse Studios has outlined a post-launch roadmap to maintain player engagement throughout 2025, including free updates and paid DLC.

Free updates encompass a Barber feature, Hardcore mode, and Horse Racing (Spring 2025 release). Paid DLC will launch in stages: Brushes with Death (Summer), Legacy of the Forge (Autumn), and Mysteria Ecclesiae (Winter).

KCD2's exceptional opening weekend performance positions it for continued commercial success, fueled by these updates and future DLC, potentially leading to even more record-breaking achievements.
