James Gunn has officially announced that a new Wonder Woman film is currently in development, revealing that the screenplay is "actively being written."
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly ahead of Superman's release, DC Studios co-head Gunn clarified that this Wonder Woman project exists independently from the previously announced Paradise Lost HBO Max series.
"We're moving forward with Wonder Woman," Gunn confirmed. "The script is currently in progress."

Outside comic books, Diana of Themyscira has faced numerous challenges recently. Gal Gadot's live-action film series lost momentum following Wonder Woman 1984's divisive reception, Diana still lacks her own animated series, and her inaugural solo video game - announced back in 2021 - was ultimately scrapped.
As IGN's Carlos Morales noted, "During the peak MCU-DCEU rivalry in the late 2010s, the original Wonder Woman stood as one of DC's clearest triumphs. The 2017 film earned widespread critical praise and grossed over $800 million worldwide. While Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad split audiences, Patty Jenkins' vision resonated powerfully. ... However, 2020's Wonder Woman 1984 proved disappointing, receiving mixed reviews and struggling to break even theatrically."
The hybrid HBO Max/theatrical release strategy reflected ongoing pandemic concerns.
Though a third installment entered development, progress eventually stalled, leaving Wonder Woman's cinematic future uncertain until now. Naturally, with this new project underway, casting discussions for Diana will resurface.
Superman launches Gunn's DCU reboot on July 11, preceding Peacemaker Season 2's August 21, 2025 HBO Max debut. Supergirl arrives June 26, 2026, while Lanterns lacks a confirmed release date.
Other developing DCU projects include Clayface (September 11, 2026), though The Authority faces challenges. Regarding Waller, Gunn acknowledged Peacemaker's spinoff "has encountered some hurdles." Conversely, HBO Max's Booster Gold progresses steadily, while Paradise Lost advances slowly but surely.
