Sony Pulls Resistance Games From PS Plus on PS5, PS4

Author : Mila Dec 07,2025

Next month, 22 games will be removed from the PlayStation Plus library. This includes titles like Grand Theft Auto 5, Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, and the final playable versions of Sony's own Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2.

PlayStation Plus is Sony's online gaming service, offering members free monthly games, timed trials, online multiplayer, and special discounts. Extra and Premium tier subscribers also get access to a vast catalog of hundreds of contemporary and classic titles.

As highlighted by Push Square, the 22 titles being pulled on May 20 feature two major first-party Sony PS3 games, both of which are exiting the PS Plus Premium library entirely.

This removal is particularly significant because Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 are no longer available for purchase on the PlayStation Store. For most players, the PS Plus Premium streaming service is now the only way to experience them, unless they own physical copies and a functioning PS3. Both games are being pulled less than a year after they were added to the service in late 2024.

The Resistance franchise is a series of alternate-history first-person shooters developed by Insomniac Games, created after their work on the Ratchet & Clank series. Three mainline Resistance games launched on the PS3 before the studio shifted focus to projects like Marvel's Spider-Man and new Ratchet & Clank titles.

While it's rare for Sony to remove its own first-party games from this service, it has happened before. A notable example is the sudden removal of both Horizon gamesHorizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West — in August 2024. However, in that case, both games remained available for purchase after their removal. In contrast, Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 will become completely inaccessible on modern consoles.

Interestingly, Resistance 3 and Resistance: Retribution will remain available on the service. It's also important to note that the more recent first-party PS4 title, inFAMOUS: Second Son, is also being removed from PS Plus.

The Resistance series has been inactive for many years. In February, Insomniac's founder and former president, Ted Price, confirmed there was a serious effort to develop Resistance 4, but the project was never officially approved. Much like Guerrilla Games' Killzone series, the Resistance franchise has been left behind.
