The Sims franchise celebrates its 25th anniversary with a spectacular array of in-game events, a marathon 25-hour livestream, and the highly anticipated return of two classic titles! Let's delve into the details of this momentous celebration.
Happy 25th Anniversary, The Sims!
A Celebration Overflowing with Events and Freebies
The Sims' 25th anniversary is marked by a plethora of in-game rewards, a star-studded livestream showcasing top Simmers (Sims players), and the triumphant comeback of The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 on PC.
Kevin Gibson, The Sims Production Director, shared with Xbox Wire, "Our amazing players have shown us that nobody captures life quite like The Sims, and we wanted to celebrate this shared journey." He highlighted the game's remarkable journey from its E3 debut 25 years ago to its current global impact, touching the lives of millions across generations. He emphasized that this success is solely attributable to the unwavering support of players over the past two decades.
"Every Simmer, throughout the years and across all the diverse ways to play The Sims, is a part of this 25-year journey, and this is our way of expressing our gratitude."
The Return of The Sims 1 and The Sims 2
The biggest news? Players can now revisit the origins of their beloved franchise! To commemorate the 25th anniversary, the original The Sims and The Sims 2, complete with their respective DLCs, are available for purchase on Steam and the EA store, individually or as a Birthday Bundle.
This is a momentous occasion for Simmers, as these initial titles were unavailable for purchase for almost a decade. Even with physical copies, running them on modern systems required significant technical adjustments. EA has addressed this by releasing versions fully compatible with contemporary hardware, fulfilling a long-awaited wish of the Simming community.
In-Game Festivities for The Sims 4 and The Sims FreePlay
The Sims 4's "Blast From The Past" event introduces iconic clothing, furniture, and décor from earlier games. Over four weeks, new items will be progressively added, including neon inflatable chairs, a three-tiered cake, a light-up dance floor, and even rotary phones.
Meanwhile, The Sims FreePlay Birthday Update transports players back to the series' 2000s beginnings, featuring new Live Events ("The One with the Coffee Shop" and "Reality Island"), a velour tracksuit, 25 days of daily gifts, and a Social Town museum showcasing The Sims' history.
A 25-Hour Livestream for 25 Years of Fun
The anniversary celebration commenced with a non-stop 25-hour livestream on February 4th, featuring numerous celebrities, streamers, renowned builders, and storytellers passionate about The Sims. Notable guests included Doja Cat, Latto, Trixie Mattel and Katya, Dan & Phil, Plumbella, Angelo & Lexy, Ironmouse, and many more.
