Phantom Blade Zero Not A Soulslike, Features Four Difficulty Options

Phantom Blade Zero Playtime Estimated to be 20-30 Hours with Adjustable Difficulty

Recent reports confirm that Phantom Blade Zero will feature four difficulty settings: easy, ordinary, difficult, and extremely difficult. Despite its aesthetic and combat style drawing comparisons to Soulslike games after its showcase at PlayStation Showcase 2023, the inclusion of adjustable difficulty levels sets it apart from the genre known for its unforgiving challenge.

Game Director Soulframe took to an official tweet following the Summer Game Fest 2024 to clarify that creating another Soulslike was never the intention. He emphasized, "We want combo-driven, heart-pumping combat that is hectic, rewarding, and exhilarating."

While the game's dark-themed world and unique boss fights drew Soulslike comparisons, Soulframe confirmed that while it took inspiration from such games with multi-layered maps and multiple approach paths, "the similarities stop there." He described Phantom Blade Zero as "Ninja Gaiden Combat on a Souls Game Map," blending hack-and-slash action with expansive exploration.

Gameplay Features With Over 30+ Weapons, 20-30 Hours of Playthrough, And More

Interviews have revealed a wealth of details about Phantom Blade Zero. Players will have the freedom to choose from over 30 primary and 20 secondary weapons, each offering unique gameplay and combat effects. The main story is expected to take approximately 20-30 hours to complete, with an additional 20-30 hours of side content to explore.

Boss encounters will feature at least two phases, allowing players who die during the second phase to restart directly from that point, skipping the first phase. A new game mode, "Li Wulin," enables players to challenge previously defeated bosses, unlocking new, hidden bosses to conquer.

A mysterious mechanic is set to influence the game's ending, though specifics on how it will affect the overall playthrough and the number of possible alternate endings remain undisclosed.
