"Oblivion Remastered Update Causes Visual Glitches; Bethesda Working on Fix"

Author : Layla May 14,2025

PC players of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered encountered unexpected issues following a surprise update released today, but Bethesda has assured fans that a solution is forthcoming.

The update, rolled out by Virtuos, caught many players off guard as it came without patch notes or any indication of what it was meant to address. While some continued their gaming sessions without noticing immediate changes, others quickly discovered that the update had introduced significant problems, particularly with the game's upscaling features.

A Reddit user highlighted the issue, stating, "Can't change the upscaling methods anymore. It's set to ‘off’ and while the arrows are clickable nothing happens. So I closed the game, disabled fluid motion in the NVidia app (was testing something before the patch came) and started the game again. Loading times for my save are long again and still can't change upscaling settings lol. Now I am stuck with 40-60 fps in high settings with a 5800X3D and a 5080. Nice patch :D"

While some players reported no significant changes in performance, many others experienced low framerates and were unable to adjust upscaling settings, severely impacting the visual experience just before Oblivion Remastered’s first weekend in players’ hands.

Are you playing Oblivion for the first time with Remastered, or did you play the original first?

Bethesda attempted to address these concerns with a post on its official support page. The update was described as including "a few backend tweaks and nothing directly impacting gameplay." However, it appears that those who purchased Oblivion Remastered through the Microsoft Store are primarily affected, particularly with issues related to upscaling and anti-aliasing options.

Bethesda clarified, "Any graphic settings adjusted prior to the Microsoft Store hotfix are still enabled and function normally. However, you will temporarily be unable to adjust those settings due to the issue with the settings UI. The team is taking a look and working out a resolution, we will share more info as soon as we can."

While a timeline for the resolution of this unexpected issue remains unclear, players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S consoles can continue playing without any reported problems.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was released for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X | S earlier this week.
