Final Fantasy XIV Suspends Housing Demolitions Due to California Wildfires

Square Enix has temporarily halted automatic housing demolitions in Final Fantasy XIV on North American servers due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. This affects players on the Aether, Primal, Crystal, and Dynamis data centers. The suspension comes just one day after the company resumed the automatic demolition timers.

The company utilizes a 45-day auto-demolition system to free up housing plots for inactive players and Free Companies. This timer resets when the plot owner logs in, incentivizing continued subscription. However, in response to real-world events like natural disasters, Square Enix occasionally pauses these timers. This latest pause is a direct response to the impact of the wildfires.

While a restart date for the auto-demolition timers has not been announced, Square Enix assures players they will provide an update when a decision is made. Homeowners can still reset their timers to the full 45 days by visiting their properties. This temporary measure follows a previous suspension related to Hurricane Helene's aftermath.

The impact of the wildfires extends beyond the game, with other events, including a Critical Role live stream and an NFL playoff game, also affected. The current situation underscores the real-world impact on virtual worlds and the community's response to such events. The unexpected pause adds to the already eventful start of 2025 for Final Fantasy XIV players, who recently benefited from a free login campaign.
