Critical Role Video Game Announcement Could Arrive 'Any Day,' Travis Willingham Confirms

Author : Matthew Mar 19,2025

The wildly popular Dungeons & Dragons show, Critical Role, is on the cusp of releasing its first major video game, with CEO Travis Willingham hinting at an imminent announcement—potentially "any day now." This exciting news emerged during a recent interview with Business Insider. While details remain scarce regarding the game's title and its precise connection to the Critical Role universe, Willingham confirmed the team's dedicated efforts, stating they are "hard at work."

"They'll actually be getting their hands on the stick and controlling the outcome of the story, changing what might be possible from not just some of their favorite characters, but new offerings in the world of Exandria," he explained, highlighting the game's interactive nature.

Willingham, a prominent actor and Critical Role star, co-founded the company alongside fellow voice acting talents like Liam O'Brien, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel, Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Matthew Mercer, and others. Since its inception, Critical Role has expanded into a vast universe, notably with the successful Amazon Prime Video spinoff, Critical Role: The Legend of Vox Machina.

The upcoming video game will join Critical Role's expanding portfolio of projects, though it won't necessarily be directly linked to existing storylines. In December 2024, Willingham revealed to Rolling Stone that the team was actively pursuing a video game spinoff, describing it as reaching "the end of a long road…undertaken for the last couple of years." Whether the game will follow one of the show's campaigns or present an original Exandrian tale remains unknown.

At that time, an announcement was anticipated before the end of 2024 or early 2025. Now, several months into the new year, the announcement appears imminent. Willingham previously commented to Rolling Stone on the challenges of the interactive entertainment landscape, stating, "Those collaborations we’ve had with various partners have been little toe dips in the pool just to see how it feels…There’s a lot of upheaval in the interactive space right now…It’s trying to become smarter about it and find out how we might fit into that larger ecosystem."

While a release date remains undisclosed, fans eagerly await further details. In the meantime, information on The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4 is available.
