Concord Season 1 Launches October 2024

With the highly anticipated launch of Concord on August 23, Sony and Firewalk Studios have unveiled exciting details about the game's post-launch content and roadmap. Dive in to discover Firewalk's updates and expert tips on mastering Concord.

Concord Reveals Roadmap Ahead of Launch Day

Concord Doesn't Require Battle Pass

Concord Season 1 Launches October 2024

Sony's innovative hero shooter, Concord, is set to make its debut on August 23 for PS5 and PC, following a successful open beta last month. Players can eagerly anticipate a stream of continuous updates starting from day one of the release.

In a recent PlayStation Blog post, game director Ryan Ellis outlined the vision for seasonal updates that will enrich the game with new characters, maps, worlds, modes, stories, features, and more. "We see launch as just the beginning. The beginning of not only the vision we’ve set out for Concord, but also the beginning of how we support and grow the game with our players," Ellis stated.

Concord has made a bold move by opting out of a traditional Battle Pass system, which is commonly found in hero shooters like Overwatch. Firewalk Studios explained, "We wanted to focus our attention on making Concord a rewarding and robust experience on day one, where just playing the game, leveling up your accounts and characters, and completing jobs yields meaningful rewards." A Battle Pass typically involves a monetized progression system used in free-to-play and live-service games, offering rewards such as cosmetics, in-game currency, and even characters.

New Character Coming to Season 1: The Tempest

Concord’s first major post-launch update, Season 1: The Tempest, is scheduled to launch in October. This update will introduce a new playable Freegunner, a brand-new map, additional Freegunner Variants, and an array of new cosmetics and rewards. Season 1 will also feature weekly Cinematic Vignettes, further expanding the narrative of the Northstar crew characters.

Concord In-Game Store

During Season 1, an in-game store will be introduced, offering additional customization options for players. The items available in the store will be purely cosmetic, ensuring they have no impact on gameplay. "These will supplement the hundreds of rewards earnable through progression and will be solely cosmetic, optional, and have no gameplay impact," Ellis emphasized.

Season 2 Slated for January 2025

Firewalk Studios is already planning for Season 2, set to release in January 2025. The studio has committed to delivering regular seasonal content throughout Concord’s first year, ensuring a continuous flow of fresh experiences for players. "We can’t wait to fully unpack what we have in store for Season 1 ahead of its launch in October," Ellis added.

Concord Tips and Gameplay Strategy

Ellis also shared insights on the optimal way to play Concord, focusing on the game's unique "Crew Builder" system. Each Custom Crew consists of five unique Freegunners, but players can include up to three copies of any Freegunner’s Variants. This flexibility allows players to tailor their team composition to their preferred playstyle, game modes, or specific match challenges.

"Crew Builder also incentivizes you to populate your Custom Crews with characters of different roles. Unlike traditional archetypes like Tank or Support, each Freegunner in Concord is designed to deliver high-DPS and be effective in a gunfight," Ellis explained. Balancing your team with Freegunners from different roles can unlock special Crew Bonuses, enhancing mobility, improving weapon recoil, reducing cooldown times, and more.

Unlike conventional shooter roles such as Tank or Support, Concord’s Freegunner characters are crafted to deliver "high DPS and be effective in a gunfight." The six roles—Anchor, Breacher, Haunt, Ranger, Tactician, and Warden—are defined by their strategic impact on the match, such as controlling areas, leveraging long sightlines, and flanking enemies.
