Rebel Wolves, a studio founded by former CD Projekt RED developers, recently hosted a stream that unveiled their debut project, The Blood of Dawnwalker. During the event, they showcased a captivating four-minute cinematic trailer, which not only sets the tone for this dark fantasy action RPG but also serves as the opening sequence to the game's storyline.
Set in an alternate version of mid-14th century Europe, The Blood of Dawnwalker follows the journey of a young man named Coen. After the dramatic events of the intro, Coen acquires supernatural abilities and is thrust into a race against time to rescue his loved ones from the clutches of vampires. With only 30 days and nights to achieve his goal, Coen must navigate the game's world where time advances only during specific moments, requiring careful management to succeed.
Throughout his quest, Coen faces significant moral dilemmas: whether to cling to his humanity or embrace his emerging vampiric nature. This pivotal choice not only shapes the narrative but also influences gameplay mechanics. A central feature of the game is the concept of Blood Hunger. If Coen resists feeding for too long, he risks losing control and inadvertently causing the death of a crucial character, resulting in unforeseen consequences.
Players will enjoy the freedom to explore intricately designed environments, where the time of day significantly impacts various elements. The developers have crafted an open world they describe as a "narrative sandbox," offering ample opportunities for players to influence the story through their actions.
The Blood of Dawnwalker has been in development for two years, utilizing the power of Unreal Engine 5. The game is slated for release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series, although an exact release date has yet to be announced.
