Starting an Infested Clear Mission

Infested missions unlock after completing 10 Tier 1 missions, granting access to Tier 2 and beyond. These missions are significantly harder than standard clear missions, featuring increased zombie numbers and tougher variants (radiated zombies, cops, ferals). Tier 6 missions are the most difficult. Regardless of tier, the objective remains the same: eliminate all enemies in a designated area. Mission difficulty is also influenced by biome; Wasteland missions are typically harder than forest missions. You initiate missions by interacting with a trader (Rekt, Jen, Bob, Hugh, or Joe).

Completing an Infested Clear Mission

Upon reaching the Point of Interest (POI), activate the mission marker. Leaving the POI or dying results in mission failure. The game often designs a "suggested" path, typically illuminated. Avoid this path to circumvent traps. Carry building blocks to escape traps or create alternate routes for flanking.

Zombies are indicated by red dots on the screen; size correlates to proximity. Prioritize headshots. Be aware of special zombie types:

Zombie Type Abilities Countermeasures
Cops Spit toxic vomit, explode when injured Maintain distance, use cover before they spit.
Spiders Jump long distances Listen for their screech before they jump; prepare for quick headshots.
Screamers Summon other zombies Prioritize eliminating them to prevent overwhelming hordes.
Demolition Zombies Carry explosive packages Avoid hitting their chests; if the explosive beeps, run.

The final room usually contains high-tier loot, but also a large number of zombies. Ensure you're fully healed and prepared before entering. Once all zombies are eliminated, report back to the trader. Besides standard loot, you'll find an "Infested Cache" containing valuable supplies.

Infested Clear Mission Rewards

Rewards are random but influenced by game stage, loot stage (boosted by the "Lucky Looter" skill and Treasure Hunter mod), mission tier, and perk selection. The "A Daring Adventurer" perk significantly improves rewards: more Dukes (1 XP per Duke sold) and, at rank 4, allows selecting two rewards. Sell unwanted items to the trader for additional XP.
