Monster Hunter Wilds Armor Sets Will No Longer Be Gender Exclusive

For years, Monster Hunter players have longed for the freedom to equip any armor set, regardless of their hunter's gender. That dream is now a reality! Capcom's Gamescom Developer Stream revealed a significant change coming to Monster Hunter Wilds: the end of gender-locked armor.

A Capcom developer confirmed during the stream, showcasing starting armors, that "In previous Monster Hunter games, male and female armor were separate. But in Monster Hunter Wilds, there’s no more male and female armor. All characters can wear any gear."

The Monster Hunter community, especially the dedicated "fashion hunters," erupted with excitement. The previous limitations meant sacrificing desired aesthetics for stats, or even paying extra for gender changes in games like Monster Hunter: World. The inability to wear specific armor pieces due to gender restrictions was a major point of frustration.

Imagine wanting that stylish Rathian skirt as a male hunter, or sporting the imposing Daimyo Hermitaur set as a female hunter – only to find it was locked behind a gender barrier. This often resulted in male armor being overly bulky and female armor being overly revealing, neither of which appealed to all players.

The impact went beyond simple aesthetics. The voucher system in Monster Hunter: World, requiring real-money purchases for gender changes, added another layer of frustration for players wanting specific armor looks.

While not explicitly stated, the likely inclusion of a layered armor system in Wilds suggests players can freely mix and match appearances without impacting stats. This, combined with the removal of gender restrictions, opens up incredible opportunities for character customization.
