MultiVersus's story is a cautionary tale in game development, comparable to the infamous Concord failure. Despite its impending closure, the game will conclude its run with the addition of two final characters: Lola Bunny and Aquaman.
This announcement follows significant player frustration, with some resorting to threats against the development team. In response, MultiVersus game director Tony Huynh issued a statement condemning the threats and appealing for respectful interaction.
Huynh apologized for the unfulfilled requests to add certain characters, expressing hope that players would enjoy the final Season 5 content. He explained that character selection involves numerous complex factors, and his personal influence is less than some fans believe.
The shutdown announcement also sparked anger over the inability to spend in-game tokens on the promised new characters for purchasers of the $100 edition. This unfulfilled promise may have contributed to the threats directed at the developers.
