World of Warcraft Delays Plunderstorm Launch

Summary

  • World of Warcraft's Plunderstorm event has been unexpectedly delayed.
  • A new launch time has not yet been announced.
  • Players can enjoy other WoW activities while waiting for Plunderstorm.

World of Warcraft has delayed the launch of its second Plunderstorm event due to unforeseen technical issues. While a return before the end of January 14th is still planned, players will need to be patient.

Plunderstorm, a popular pirate-themed battle royale mode introduced during the Dragonflight expansion in 2024, was slated to return on January 14th, 2025, with both returning and new rewards.

Unfortunately, unexpected problems arose during the rollout. An initially scheduled six-hour maintenance period was extended to eight hours, with servers expected back online at 3 PM PST. However, a community manager, Kaivax, announced further delays due to these unanticipated issues. Although Blizzard aims for a launch before the end of January 14th, no firm new timeframe is currently available.

When Will Plunderstorm Go Live in World of Warcraft?

  • Before the end of January 14th, pending resolution of unexpected issues.

Regular WoW servers are now back online. Players eagerly awaiting Plunderstorm can participate in Siren Isle weeklies, the second week of the Turbulent Timeways event, or other activities within The War Within.

This second Plunderstorm iteration includes new features such as the Plunderstore and an in-game event interface accessible while logged in. These additions may be contributing to the current issues. Hopefully, Blizzard will resolve them swiftly.

Despite the game mode's delay, the new Plunderstorm Twitch Drops are live. Watch four hours of any World of Warcraft Twitch streamer before February 4th at 10 AM PST to earn the Coward's Azure Target back transmog. The streamer doesn't need to be playing Plunderstorm, providing a way for players to earn rewards while waiting.
