Since *Fields of Mistria* entered Early Access on Steam, the Deep Woods area has been marked on the town map, but remained inaccessible until the game's exciting March 2025 update. Here’s your guide on how to access the Deep Woods and where to find Caldarus in *Fields of Mistria*.
How To Unlock the Deep Woods in Fields of Mistria
Unlocking the Deep Woods requires you to break the Fire Seal and harness the new Dragon’s Breath spell to burn away the concealing vines. To break the Fire Seal, head to Floor 60 in the mines and place four items on the Priestess' altar: a Faceted Rock Gem, a Rockroot, an Emerald, and a Sealing Scroll. You can gather the first three items between floors 50 and 59, but acquiring the Sealing Scroll will require teamwork with Juniper and Balor.
To help Balor procure the Sealing Scroll, deposit the following items in the bin by his wagon:
- x10 Silver Ingots
- x10 Rubies
- x10 Sapphires
- x10 Emeralds
After fulfilling these requirements, speak with Balor again, and he’ll inform you that the item will arrive the next day. Once you have the scroll, you can complete the offering.
Typically, breaking a magic seal results in a few parting words from the mysterious mines Priestess, unlocking a new biome. However, this time, things don't go as planned. The Priestess warns you to leave before the Sealing Scroll traps you inside. As your health dwindles, Caldarus appears in his human form, rescues you, and retreats to his temple in the Deep Woods to regain his strength.
Caldarus then instructs you to find him there and bestows upon you the Dragon’s Breath spell. This powerful spell not only clears the vines blocking the Deep Woods entrance but can also unlock other previously inaccessible areas on the map. Equip Dragon’s Breath from the pause menu and activate it in front of the Deep Woods entrance to unlock it permanently.

How To Find Caldarus
After breaking the Fire Seal, locate Caldarus inside his temple in the Deep Woods, north of the Eastern Road on your map. Use the Dragon’s Breath spell to access this area. Caldarus’ exact location is marked on the map like other NPCs, and you’ll find him in the northeast corner of the area.
To reach him, enter the Deep Woods, head right, and use your axe to chop down the stump blocking your path. Continue north until you reach the temple where Caldarus awaits inside.
Once the Deep Woods are unlocked, you can use the Dragon Statue on your farm to fast travel to the area for just 10 Essence, saving you time compared to traveling by foot or horseback. You can also interact with Caldarus through his statue in spirit form.
