Hyper Light Breaker offers players a rich array of choices, including a diverse lineup of characters known as Breakers, each equipped with unique playstyles to combat the formidable Abyss King.
Unlocking new characters in Hyper Light Breaker is straightforward compared to many roguelikes, yet the game doesn't explicitly detail the process. This guide will walk you through acquiring new Breakers and provide an overview of the characters available in the early access version of the game. As more characters are added, we will update this guide accordingly.
How to Get New Characters in Hyper Light Breaker
To unlock new characters, players must collect Abyss Stones, which are exclusively dropped by defeating Crowns, the game's bosses. To reach these bosses, you'll need Prisms, which serve as keys to the boss arenas. Look for Prisms on the map, guided by the golden diamond icon.
After defeating a Crown, return to the Cursed Outpost via the teleporter. There, you can select the Breaker you wish to unlock and use your Abyss Stones to make them playable. While there are nine characters in total, only two are currently unlockable in the early access version. The method to unlock the remaining characters is yet to be revealed.
All Characters in Hyper Light Breaker
Each character in Hyper Light Breaker comes equipped with a SyCom, a crucial item that sets their base stats and core perk, defining their unique playstyle. Here's a detailed look at each character and their playstyles.
Vermillion
Vermillion is the initial character players encounter, equipped with the Gunslinger SyCom, which enhances his ranged combat capabilities. His Rail shots have a chance to crit, and a critical hit guarantees the next shot will crit as well.
For those who prefer melee combat, Vermillion can switch to the Tank SyCom, which boosts armor upon perfect parries and offers superior defensive and melee stats, making it a safer choice overall.
Lapis
Lapis starts with the Lightweaver SyCom, which amplifies her Rail shot damage after collecting a Battery. Her standout feature is the Warrior SyCom, which increases her core stats with each upgrade, making her increasingly powerful over time.
Lapis excels with both SyComs, but the Warrior SyCom transforms her into a formidable force, outstripping other Breakers in raw stats with enough upgrades.
Goro
Goro is tailored for ranged combat, starting with the Astrologer SyCom, which speeds up his Blade skill charging while shooting. The unlockable Sniper SyCom further boosts his critical hit rate.
Goro fits the profile of a ranged glass cannon, offering high damage output but lacking in defensive capabilities. Mastering Goro can be challenging, but with the right strategy, he can be an exceptionally effective fighter.
