Embark on a virtual train journey across Japan with the latest expansion for Ticket to Ride. Marmalade Game Studio and Asmodee Entertainment have released the Japan Expansion for the digital adaptation of this beloved board game.
Help Build the Train Network
For the first time, the Japan map from the physical edition is available on digital platforms, though with a unique twist. Instead of solely building your personal railway empire, you contribute to developing a national Bullet Train network that all players share.
It's a semi-cooperative experience. You could attempt to let others handle the heavy lifting while you accumulate points, but beware—the game features a built-in karma system.
Neglect your Bullet Train responsibilities and you'll lose 20 points when the final tally is calculated. So, even if you're plotting future sabotage, you'll need to pitch in occasionally.
The Japan Expansion also introduces two new characters. Meet Nakanishi Kimiko, a travel blogger who's fully embracing festival culture alongside her canine companion.
The second character is Moriyama Isamu, a gyōji (sumo referee) who brings authentic Japanese cultural elements to the game, enriching the experience beyond just railways and maps.
Ticket to Ride Has Upgraded Trains with the Japan Expansion
Your train collection receives several enhancements. The expansion brings two new locomotives and two specialized carriages. The Ichi Eki Saki train comes with the Tsuki Sleeper carriage for leisurely journeys, while the Isogaba Maware train pairs with the high-speed Hayai carriage for rapid transit.
With spring's arrival, the Japan map's seasonal atmosphere provides particularly charming visuals. The Japan Expansion is now available for download, offering fresh gameplay for your Ticket to Ride sessions. Find it on the Google Play Store.
