Shift Up, the developer behind the popular action RPG Stellar Blade, has unveiled its roadmap for upcoming updates and future plans. The game, a significant release this year, has garnered a large and enthusiastic fanbase eager for more content. While Shift Up has been addressing performance issues and improving overall quality of life, they've now shared a clearer vision for the game's future.
Shift Up CFO Ahn Jae-woo recently outlined the company's plans, including:
- Photo Mode: Expected around August.
- New Skins: Planned for release after October.
- Major Collaboration: A large collaborative event is scheduled for the end of 2024. Forbes' Paul Tassi speculates this might be a collaboration with the Nier series, given the positive relationship between the directors of both franchises and Stellar Blade's clear Nier: Automata inspiration.
Stellar Blade Update Roadmap:
- Photo Mode – Around August
- New Skins – After October
- Major Collaboration – End of 2024
- Sequel Confirmed, Paid DLC Under Consideration
Ahn Jae-woo also confirmed ongoing preparations for the PC release of Stellar Blade. He expressed confidence in the game's sales, citing over one million copies sold and drawing comparisons to successful titles like Ghost of Tsushima and Detroit: Become Human, which achieved sales of three to seven million copies. The one million sales figure is considered impressive for a new IP.
The optimism surrounding Stellar Blade's success suggests a sequel is likely. While Shift Up is exploring the possibility of paid DLC, a sequel is confirmed, although details remain scarce. The company is currently prioritizing the immediate updates outlined above, meaning further information on long-term plans may take some time. However, the current roadmap provides plenty for fans to anticipate in the coming months.
