Ubisoft's Stealth NFT Game Launch: Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E.
Ubisoft quietly unveiled Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E., a multiplayer arcade shooter requiring players to purchase an NFT to participate. This news, initially reported by Eurogamer on December 20th, reveals a new direction for Ubisoft's engagement with NFT technology.
Expanding the Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix universe (originally a Netflix series), the game integrates popular Ubisoft franchises like Watch Dogs and Assassin's Creed. Limited to 10,000 players, access is granted through the purchase of a Citizen ID Card NFT for $25.63 from Ubisoft's Magic Eden page. This card tracks in-game achievements and evolves based on player performance, offering a unique blend of gameplay and digital ownership. Players can even resell their Citizen ID Cards, potentially increasing their value based on in-game success.
The game's full launch is slated for Q1 2025, with early access for those who secure their Citizen ID Cards early.
A Netflix Series Inspired by Far Cry 3's Blood Dragon
The game's foundation lies in the Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix Netflix series, a spin-off of Far Cry 3's Blood Dragon DLC. Set in an alternate 1992 where the US is a megacorporation-controlled technocracy called Eden, the series follows Dolph Laserhawk, a supersoldier, and his journey after defecting from Eden Tech Military.
While Ubisoft hasn't detailed the game's narrative, it shares the series' universe. Players become citizens of Eden, influencing the game's story through mission completion, leaderboard rankings, and community engagement. Their "citizen scores" directly impact the unfolding narrative.
