Shawn Levy, director of Deadpool and Wolverine, is reportedly on the verge of joining the Star Wars universe, bringing Ryan Gosling along for the ride.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Levy's Star Wars film is in advanced negotiations with Gosling to take a leading role. Levy has been developing this project since 2022, with a script finalized last year. He's re-teaming with Jonathan Tropper, screenwriter for This Is Where I Leave You and The Adam Project, both Levy-directed films.
Plot details remain tightly under wraps. The only confirmed information is that the film will be a standalone story, unconnected to the Skywalker Saga, and likely not part of a larger trilogy.
The Hollywood Reporter also suggests that Gosling's potential involvement has expedited the project. While Levy was previously slated to direct a boy band movie starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, Gosling's commitment could prioritize the Star Wars film, pushing production to begin this fall.

On the film front, Dave Filoni's Mandalorian and Grogu movie completed production in December, targeting a May 22, 2026 release. A new trilogy centered on Daisy Ridley's Rey is also in the works.
