Jharrel Jerome, star of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, has confirmed that production on the highly anticipated third installment, Beyond the Spider-Verse, hasn't commenced. He revealed in an interview with Decider that he hasn't even begun recording lines, stating that several aspects of the film are still "being figured out." This news comes as little surprise, considering the five-year gap between the first and second films.

"No, I wish," Jerome responded when asked about the film's production status. "We haven’t started up yet. A lot of things being figured out, but good things."

While Jerome's role in Across the Spider-Verse was relatively small, his character is poised to become a central antagonist in the third film. Spoiler alert for Across the Spider-Verse's ending: Jerome portrays Miles G. Morales from Earth-42, revealed at the film's conclusion as the Prowler, not Spider-Man.

In this alternate reality, the radioactive spider bite intended for Miles shifted to the main timeline's Miles, leaving this Earth-42 Miles without superpowers. Following the death of his universe's Peter Parker, Earth-42 New York fell under the control of supervillains, leading Miles to embrace a villainous persona.

The narrative conflict between this villainous Miles and the main Spider-Man will likely be the focus of Beyond the Spider-Verse. However, fans should brace themselves for a considerable wait, with Deadline suggesting a 2026 release at the earliest, or potentially as late as 2028 if the production timeline mirrors that of the previous film.
