Sony Cutting PS4 Games from PlayStation Plus Next Year

Sony's PlayStation Plus is transitioning to a PS5-centric model. Starting January 2026, PS4 games will be phased out of the PlayStation Plus Essentials monthly games and the Games Catalog. This strategic shift reflects Sony's observation that a significant portion of their player base now primarily uses PS5 consoles.

The February 2025 PlayStation Blog update confirmed this change, stating PS4 games will only be offered occasionally in the future. Existing subscribers retain access to previously claimed titles. Games Catalog PS4 titles will remain playable until their scheduled removal from the catalog's monthly refresh.

Sony emphasizes its commitment to enhancing the PlayStation Plus experience, assuring continued benefits such as exclusive discounts, online multiplayer, and cloud saves. The focus will now be on regularly adding new PS5 titles to the monthly offerings.

With the PS5's release in 2020, following the PS4's 2013 debut, Sony acknowledges the shift in player preference towards PS5 titles.
