Skyblivion, the ambitious fan-made remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion using the engine of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, is set to launch in 2025. The dedicated team of volunteer developers shared their progress and reaffirmed their commitment to this release date during a recent developer update stream. This massive modding project, which has been years in the making, showcases the passion and effort of its creators, aiming to deliver a AAA-scale experience.
In their latest stream, the Skyblivion team expressed optimism about meeting their 2025 target, stating, "We hope with your support to finish the final steps in completing our dream, maybe even beating our own estimation." This update not only highlights their progress but also underscores the community's role in bringing this project to fruition.

Describing Skyblivion merely as a one-to-one remake would not do justice to the extensive work being done. The developers are enhancing various aspects of the original game, from making unique items truly distinctive to improving the challenge posed by existing bosses like Mannimarco. They also showcased the revamped "A Brush with Death" quest during their livestream, which looked stunning in its new form.
Adding an intriguing layer to this project is the buzz around an official Oblivion remake. Earlier this year, rumors surfaced about potential changes to combat and other elements in an official remaster. Microsoft, however, declined to comment on these rumors to IGN. Additionally, documents from the Activision Blizzard/FTC trial in 2023 hinted at an Oblivion remaster, alongside other projects like an Indiana Jones game, which has since been released. Yet, the Oblivion and Fallout 3 remasters remain unconfirmed.
The possibility of an official Oblivion relaunch by Microsoft and Bethesda could impact projects like Skyblivion. Bethesda's games have a rich history of modding support, from classic titles to the latest releases like Starfield. Fans hope that Skyblivion will not face the same challenges as Fallout London did before its launch.
