Ubisoft is setting sail to make Skull and Bones Year 2 the most expansive year yet for the pirate-themed multiplayer game, thanks to a slew of major content updates. These include new modes, ships, the introduction of a Kraken, and a much-anticipated feature: land combat.
During a special Year 2 showcase that premiered yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled its roadmap for the upcoming year, filled with exciting content. The highlight of the presentation was Season 3: Guts and Glory, scheduled for this fall, which will finally introduce the land combat feature that fans have been clamoring for since the game's launch last February.
In Season 3, players will be able to take the fight to the land, engaging in swordfights and using firearms against other players. This feature is part of the Rogue Warlord update, where players will explore sandy beaches and damp caves to rescue skilled crew members known as Officers. A teaser video gave a glimpse of what to expect, but more details will be revealed later this year. While land combat is the most significant addition to Skull and Bones Year 2, the showcase also promised a wealth of content throughout 2025. Season 1: Ascent into Chaos, launching today, April 15, introduces a new item ascension feature, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Season 2: Oaths of War, set for summer 2025, will bring Megaforts and the formidable Frigate large ships. Season 4: Eye of the Beast, scheduled for this winter, will introduce the Kraken, the Hunter’s Guild, and the Corvette large ship.
If the announced updates sound appealing, you'll be pleased to know that Skull and Bones is hosting a free weekend from April 17 – 21. During this period, players can experience pirate PvP firsthand and also purchase the game at a discounted price, though the exact discount has not yet been announced.Skull and Bones was released on February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, earning a 7/10 in our review. While Ubisoft has been tight-lipped about official sales figures, they did mention achieving "record player engagement" shortly after its release. Notably, the launch of Skull and Bones also saw a 200% increase in players for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
