Sega's Risk-Taking Approach Fuels RGG Studio's Ambitious Projects

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio (RGG Studio) credits Sega's willingness to embrace risk as the driving force behind its ability to simultaneously develop multiple large-scale projects. This includes a brand-new IP and a fresh take on a classic franchise. Read on to learn more about RGG Studio's exciting upcoming titles.
Sega's Bold Investment in New IPs and Concepts

RGG Studio, already juggling the next Like a Dragon installment and a Virtua Fighter remake slated for 2025, recently unveiled two additional projects: Project Century, a new IP set in 1915 Japan, and a new Virtua Fighter project (distinct from the upcoming Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O remaster). The simultaneous reveal of these ambitious, large-scale projects highlights Sega's confidence in RGG Studio's capabilities. This reflects a combination of strong trust and a commitment to innovation.

"Sega embraces the possibility of failure," RGG Studio head and director Masayoshi Yokoyama told Famitsu, as translated by Automaton Media. He attributes this risk tolerance to Sega's DNA, citing the evolution from the Virtua Fighter IP to the creation of Shenmue as an example of Sega's willingness to experiment with new genres and ideas ("What if we made ‘VF’ into an RPG?").
RGG Studio assures fans that the simultaneous development of these projects won't compromise quality, particularly concerning the Virtua Fighter franchise. Original Virtua Fighter creator Yu Suzuki has voiced his support for the new project, and the team, including producer Riichiro Yamada, is committed to delivering a high-quality, innovative experience.

Yamada stated, "With the new ‘VF,’ we aim to create something innovative and captivating for a broad audience. Whether you're a longtime fan or new to the series, we hope you'll eagerly anticipate further updates." Yokoyama echoed this sentiment, expressing his excitement for both upcoming titles.
