RuneScape: Dragonwilds caught everyone off guard with its early access announcement. In an exciting livestream on April 16, developer Jagex revealed that the game is now accessible for early access on Steam, mere weeks following its debut trailer.
The gaming community was taken aback as Dragonwilds had only recently been listed for wishlisting on Steam on April 1, with its first official gameplay teaser unveiled on April 2. The project was first hinted at in 2022, but it wasn't until late 2024 that Jagex began accepting alpha testing signups for a "new survival game set within the RuneScape universe." The game's official unveiling as RuneScape: Dragonwilds occurred on March 31, 2025.

The team at Jagex has set sights on an early 2026 release for Dragonwilds. They emphasized their commitment to delivering a polished and engaging experience, stating, "We want to take the time necessary to perfect the game, ensuring our players enjoy a comprehensive and rewarding experience they'll want to share with friends time and again."

Early Access Roadmap Revealed
Jagex has shared an exciting early access roadmap, outlining the future updates planned for Dragonwilds. A highlight is the introduction of Fellhollow, a new region caught between the realms of life and death.
This mystical area, ruled by the soul-eater dragon Imaru, is influenced by the wild anima of Ashenfall and the cursed energy of the Underworld. Players will explore this region alongside the iconic RuneScape character Death, encountering new quests, lore, gear, and music, as well as expanding their skills in magic, ranged combat, and farming.
Moreover, the game will introduce new enemy types such as Lesser Dragons, along with dragon slayer gear, a hardcore mode, and a creative mode. While specific release dates for these updates remain under wraps, Jagex assures continuous enhancements to the game.
