While attempting to ride a sandworm is often the first thing players try—and usually fail at—in Dune: Awakening, it turns out that with enough patience and a tolerance for occasional screen tearing or asset clipping, it's actually possible.
This isn't an officially supported feature you can unlock—although the developer, Funcom, reportedly considered it before deciding against it—but by having lightning-fast reflexes and carefully observing the sandworms’ behaviors and attack patterns as if they were a boss in Elden Ring, you can eventually climb aboard.
Redditor SgtDolphin has shared not one but two videos showing himself riding the worm. He used a mix of abilities and gear, such as the super-sprint Bindu Sprint skill, the Full Suspensor Belt, and Emperor’s Wings, to move quickly and maintain better control while airborne (thanks, PC Gamer). Once you're on the worm, you can’t control it, and you’ll regularly be thrown off—but as Dolphin proves, it can be done.

"It can get pretty glitchy, especially around the displaced sand," SgtDolphin explained in the comments. "I died many times to pull off these rides—it’s definitely a dangerous sport!"

We're still in the process of reviewing Dune: Awakening. Although we haven’t assigned a score yet and remain somewhat underwhelmed by the gunplay, our reviewer wrote: "After more than 35 hours, I still feel like I’m fairly early into my Dune: Awakening adventure. I have new zones to explore, the main story still to progress, and only a handful of PvP encounters so far. There’s plenty left to do—so look for an update later this week as I continue toward the endgame."
If you're curious about what players think of Dune: Awakening so far, the survival multiplayer title has already hit a peak concurrent player count on Steam of over 117,000. For more information, check out the details on the MMO's business model and post-launch plans.
