Games Workshop's highly anticipated Warhammer 40,000 animation, Astartes 2, has resurfaced with a stunning teaser trailer, captivating fans. However, a crucial detail has emerged: none of the footage showcased in the teaser will actually appear in the final animation.

Astartes 2 is the long-awaited sequel to the acclaimed fan-made original, created by Syama Pedersen. Considered by many as the pinnacle of Warhammer 40,000 animation, it's only rivaled perhaps by Amazon's recent Space Marine 2 animation. The original's success even inspired Saber Interactive's popular Space Marine 2 video game, leading Games Workshop to hire Pedersen for the sequel.

Years of silence surrounding Astartes 2 fueled speculation of cancellation, until the surprise January 29th teaser trailer release. The trailer is a visual spectacle, showcasing unprecedented scale and quality, featuring melee and ranged combat, vehicle warfare, and even space battles. Various Space Marine chapters clash across diverse environments against Tyranids, Orks, and Tau.

While the teaser effectively generates hype, Games Workshop clarified on the Warhammer Community website that the footage is not from the actual animation. Instead, it's a compilation of shots representing the characters' pasts, with a subtle hint at the final storyline.

The lack of a disclaimer on the trailer itself is a potential issue, as fans viewing the teaser might reasonably expect its content to appear in Astartes 2. Many may not see the clarifying Warhammer Community post.

Despite this, the teaser sparks excitement and speculation. The final image suggests the characters will form an Inquisition-led Deathwatch Terminator squad.

The Astartes 2 teaser has already sparked envy among Space Marine 2 fans, who hope some elements, particularly the capes, might be incorporated into the game. With ongoing updates to Space Marine 2, it's possible Saber Interactive will again draw inspiration from the Astartes series.
