Hashino recently revealed his vision for the studio's future, expressing a strong desire to develop a game set during Japan's Sengoku period. He envisions this historical setting as ideal for a new Japanese role-playing game (JRPG), potentially drawing inspiration from the popular Basara series.
While there are no current plans to create a sequel to Metaphor: ReFantazio, Hashino emphasized his commitment to completing the current project. He shared that the game was originally conceived as the third major JRPG series for Atlus, following Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, aiming to become a flagship title for the company.
Despite earlier statements ruling out a direct sequel, Atlus is already working on its next project, which is highly unlikely to be Metaphor: ReFantazio 2. However, an anime adaptation is under consideration. Metaphor: ReFantazio has already achieved remarkable success, boasting the highest concurrent player count for an Atlus game launch, exceeding 85,961 players. This surpasses the concurrent player counts of Persona 5 Royal (35,474) and Persona 3 Reload (45,002). The game is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
