The eagerly awaited Ratatan gameplay trailer was released during IGN Fan Fest Day 2 2025, offering fans a captivating glimpse into the game's mechanics. Developed by Ratatan Works, the trailer showcases a thrilling battle against a giant boss crab, highlighting the game's unique rhythm roguelike action elements that blend rhythm gaming with side-scrolling action.Ratatan supports online co-op gameplay for up to 4 players, allowing them to command up to 100 characters in exhilarating melee battles. The game is being crafted by Patapon creator Hiroyuki Kotani, alongside the original Patapon musician Kemmei Adachi. Its successful Kickstarter campaign, which started in 2023, has now achieved its console launch stretch goal, ensuring a release on multiple platforms.
Closed Beta Begins on February 27, 2025
Ratatan is gearing up for its closed beta, scheduled to commence on February 27, 2025, as announced on their Kickstarter page. Producer Kazuto Sakajiri shared exciting updates, noting that the game has surpassed 100,000 wishlists on Steam and received positive feedback on the Ratatan Original Soundtrack Demo. While the game won't be part of the upcoming Steam Next Fest, the team is prioritizing the closed beta and planning to enhance the demo for the Steam Next festival in June.
Sakajiri outlined what players can expect during the closed beta, starting with an initial build that includes Stage 1, with plans to add Stages 2 and 3 throughout the month-long test period. Further details regarding code distribution, start date, and time will be shared via Discord and X once finalized.
Ratatan is slated for release in 2025 across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC, though a specific release date has yet to be announced.
