Announcing Ananta: The Rebranded Project Mugen Open-World RPG
Remember Project Mugen, the highly anticipated urban open-world RPG from Naked Rain and NetEase? It's been officially renamed Ananta.
First unveiled at Gamescom 2023, the game has finally released a new trailer after a long period of silence. More details are promised on December 5th, but for now, enjoy the official trailer:
The Name Change Explained (Or Not)
The developers haven't yet commented on the name change. Interestingly, "Ananta" means "infinite" in Sanskrit, mirroring the meaning of "Mugen" (also "infinite"). The Chinese title further supports this thematic continuity.
The gaming community is divided on the rebranding, but there's collective relief that the project hasn't been canceled.
Comparisons to Neverness to Everness
Many are comparing Ananta to Hotta Studio's upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness. While Ananta's trailer is visually impressive, it lacks gameplay footage. This gives Neverness to Everness a perceived advantage for some players, though Ananta's visuals are considered more appealing by others.
A Curious Social Media Reset
Adding to the intrigue, the development team has deleted all previous social media accounts, including a YouTube channel with over 100,000 subscribers and millions of views. Only their Discord server remains, simply renamed to reflect the title change. This unexpected move has left many gamers puzzled.
