The Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Gen 10 is a beast of a machine, featuring a 16" 2560x1600 240Hz OLED display, an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 GPU, 32GB of DDR5-6400MHz RAM, and a hefty 2TB (2x1TB) of SSD storage. The Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX significantly outperforms the Core Ultra 9 185H found in previous flagship laptops, which was more focused on energy efficiency rather than being a direct successor to the i9-14900HX. The new processor is a perfect match for the powerful GeForce RTX 5080 mobile GPU.
This model is packed with the latest technology, including WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 support, USB Type-C with up to 140W of Power Delivery, Thunderbolt 4 with DisplayPort 2.1 (40Gbps), and a USB Type-A port with USB 3.2 Gen 2 specifications. It also retains an RJ45 ethernet port, a feature becoming increasingly rare, and includes a privacy shutter for the webcam. The chassis, crafted from aluminum and magnesium, ensures durability and a premium feel.
We've Reviewed an RTX 5080 Equipped Gaming Laptop
Although we haven't yet tested Lenovo's latest Legion laptop, we have evaluated a gaming laptop equipped with the RTX 5080 GPU. The RTX 5080 offers a slight edge over the RTX 4080 in raw rasterized performance but shows significant improvements in games that support DLSS 4.0 with multi-frame generation. The Gigabyte Aorus Master laptop, featuring an RTX 5080 with a 150W TGP rating and a 2560x1600 display, provided insights into what to expect. Given that the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i shares the same TGP rating and display resolution, it should deliver comparable gaming performance.
Gigabyte Aorus Master 16" RTX 5080 Laptop Review by Chris Coke
"Here's the thing: Nvidia hasn't been shy about tying the 50-series to its AI capabilities versus pure native rendering performance. Though the RTX 5080 performs disappointingly close to the RTX 4080, this difference vanishes when playing games that support multi-frame generation. While 'fake frames' have become a bit of a meme, the reality is that when it works, it's pretty amazing and dramatically improves performance. This varies from game to game, depending on how well it handles latency. For example, Alan Wake 2 tends to feel a bit more laggy at higher multiplier settings, whereas Cyberpunk 2077 does not. With this technology and others, like neural shaders, coming to future games, there's a compelling case to be made for investing in these future technologies. However, you're buying into a promise while Nvidia and game developers work to add support to new and existing games."
