Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team Joins Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack

Available on August 9

Nintendo is enhancing its Switch's Expansion Pack classic games catalog with the addition of another cherished Pokémon title. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team will be accessible via the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service starting August 9. This beloved Pokémon spin-off, originally released for the Game Boy Advance in 2006, invites players to embark on a thrilling adventure as a human transformed into a Pokémon. Navigate through dungeons and undertake various missions to solve the enigma of your transformation. Alongside its counterpart, Blue Rescue Team for the Nintendo DS, it was remade for the Switch in 2020 as Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX.

Pokémon Fans Eager for Mainline Games on NSO Expansion Pack

While the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack regularly updates its library with classic titles, it has primarily featured Pokémon spin-off games like Pokémon Snap and Pokémon Puzzle League. This has left some fans yearning for mainline Pokémon games to be included in the expansion pack catalog. Despite the absence of titles like Pokémon Red and Blue, fans have speculated on the reasons. Some believe Nintendo is addressing issues with N64 Transfer Pak compatibility, while others point to potential challenges with the NSO's infrastructure and the integration of the Pokémon Home app on the Switch. "They might be ensuring seamless trading without the possibility of exploits," one fan theorized.
