Sony has responded to widespread fan complaints following the recent rollout of a PS5 update that led to the console's home screen being populated with numerous promotional materials.
Sony Says It Has Resolved Unintended Error with PS5 Ads
Sony has announced that it has addressed a technical glitch that caused an influx of ads on the PlayStation 5 home screen. In a statement posted on Twitter (X), Sony clarified, "A tech error with the Official News feature on the PS5 console has since been resolved. There have been no changes to the way game news is displayed on PS5."
Prior to this resolution, Sony faced significant backlash from its user base after an update resulted in the PS5 home screen displaying ads, promotional art, and outdated news. These promotional elements took up a significant portion of the screen, causing frustration among users. The update, which had been gradually implemented over recent weeks, was fully rolled out just before the complaints surged.
PlayStation 5's home screen now reportedly displays art and news related to the game a user focuses on. Despite Sony's efforts to address the issue, some users remain dissatisfied. One user expressed their frustration on social media, stating, "I checked my other games and they had it as well and most of the background images have changed to these low-quality thumbnails from the news, covering up the unique art that made each game feel like it had its own 'theme.' This is a terrible decision, and I hope Sony changes it or offers an opt-out feature. At least with the explore tab, I could ignore it without it affecting every game I 'own.'" Another user voiced their discontent, saying, "It's strange that some people are defending this. Who wants to spend $500 on a console just to be bombarded with unwanted ads?"
