Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 Out Now!
Steam Player Count Soars After Patch 8 Release
Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) has rolled out its much-anticipated final patch, marking the end of its legendary journey. On April 15, 2025, Larian Studios unveiled BG3’s Patch 8, signaling the last significant update for the game. This milestone has sparked renewed interest, boosting the player count from around 60,000 to over 169,000 concurrent players on Steam, propelling it just outside the platform's top 10 most played games.
Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke celebrated this resurgence on Twitter (X) on April 22, highlighting the thriving modding community that allows them to shift focus to their "next big thing." It's been confirmed that Larian Studios is moving away from the Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) universe to explore new creative horizons.
In light of this, D&D's stewards, Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro, are set to continue the Baldur’s Gate saga without Larian Studios. They are currently negotiating with other studios to potentially develop Baldur’s Gate 4.
12 New Subclasses, Photo Mode, and More!
Patch 8, announced back in November 2024 via a Steam blog post, has finally arrived, bringing with it 12 new subclasses, a photo mode, cross-play functionality, and much more. The detailed patch notes on BG3’s official website showcase a comprehensive list of bug fixes and combat balance adjustments, ensuring the game concludes on a high note.
Larian Studios has poured their heart into enhancing BG3, and it shows through the extensive updates and fixes in this final patch. While this marks the end of major updates, Larian remains committed to supporting the game's vibrant modding community.
