Palworld is set to launch on the PS5, as revealed during the PlayStation State of Play in September 2024, following its initial release on Xbox and PC. However, the game's release on the PS5 in Japan has been indefinitely postponed due to recent legal developments involving Nintendo.
Palworld PlayStation Debut Announced at State of Play
Palworld has now hit the PS5, as announced at the PlayStation State of Play in September 2024. Alongside this exciting news, Sony unveiled a trailer featuring your Palworld character adorned with gear inspired by Aloy from the acclaimed action RPG, Horizon Forbidden West.Despite the global launch, PlayStation users in Japan won't be able to dive into Palworld just yet. The PS5 version of the game is currently unavailable in Japan due to a patent infringement lawsuit filed by Nintendo and Pokémon against the game's developer, Pocketpair. This legal action has led to the indefinite delay of Palworld's PS5 release in Japan.
Palworld PS5 Japan Release Date Still Undecided
Following Sony's announcement, Palworld's official Japanese Twitter (X) account updated fans on the status of the game's PS5 version. "As announced at the official PlayStation State of Play, the PS5 version of 'Palworld' has been released today in 68 countries and regions worldwide," the statement read.
The Palworld team extended their apologies to PlayStation players in Japan, confirming that the game's release date in the country remains undecided. "The release date for Japan has not yet been determined. We deeply apologize to the Japanese community eagerly awaiting 'Palworld', and we are committed to bringing the game to all PS5 users as soon as possible."
While Pocketpair has not officially stated the reason for the delay, it is widely believed that the ongoing legal battle with Nintendo and Pokémon over patent infringement is the cause. Last week, Nintendo filed a case in Tokyo Court, seeking an injunction and damages against Palworld. Should the court grant the injunction, it could force Pocketpair to halt operations on Palworld, potentially leading to the game's removal from the market.
