Palworld developer Pocketpair is gearing up for a significant update set to roll out in late March 2025. This update will introduce crossplay functionality, allowing players to enjoy multiplayer across all platforms. Additionally, it will feature a world transfer system for Pals, enhancing the gaming experience for the community. While specifics remain under wraps, Pocketpair did share a teaser image on X/Twitter, showcasing various Palworld characters in combat against a formidable Pal.
John 'Bucky' Buckley, Pocketpair's Communications Director and Publishing Manager, hinted at some additional surprises coming with the March update. This news comes as a delight to the 32 million players who have engaged with Palworld since its early access launch in January 2024. The developer has a robust content roadmap planned for 2025, including an "ending scenario" and other new content for this popular creature-catching survival game.
Since its launch on Steam for $30 and its inclusion in Game Pass on Xbox and PC, Palworld has shattered sales and concurrent player records. The overwhelming success led Pocketpair's CEO, Takuro Mizobe, to admit that the studio was initially overwhelmed by the game's massive profits. In response, Pocketpair quickly moved to expand the Palworld universe, striking a deal with Sony to establish Palworld Entertainment. This new venture aims to broaden the IP and bring the game to the PS5.
However, the game's success has not been without challenges. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have filed a lawsuit against Pocketpair, alleging infringement on "multiple" patent rights and seeking an injunction and damages. In response, Pocketpair has identified the patents in question and made adjustments to the Pal summoning mechanics in the game. The studio remains steadfast, ready to defend its position in court, stating, "We will continue to assert our position in this case through future legal proceedings."
