Nintendo has officially announced the pricing for upgrading two popular titles from the original Nintendo Switch to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition: Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. The cost of these upgrades is notably higher than expected.
For context, upgrading The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom from the original Switch version to the Switch 2 Edition costs $9.99 each. However, NintendoLife has highlighted that the upgrade packs for both Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are priced at more than double that amount.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild includes improved visuals and performance, achievements, and integration with the new "Zelda Notes" service available on the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original Switch version of Breath of the Wild can access these enhancements by purchasing an "upgrade pack" for $10.
The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land introduces new story content called Star-Crossed World. Meanwhile, the Switch 2 Edition of Super Mario Party Jamboree features a new content suite, Jamboree TV, which utilizes the advanced capabilities of the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, Switch 2 microphone, and the Switch 2 USB-C camera (sold separately). Both games also boast enhanced resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, improved frame rates, new minigames, and expanded online functionalities.
While U.S. prices are yet to be confirmed on the American Nintendo eShop, possibly due to ongoing tariff issues related to former President Trump's policies, the UK Nintendo eShop lists the upgrade pack for Kirby and the Forgotten Land at £16.99 / €19.99. This is significantly higher than the £7.99 / €9.99 charged for upgrading either Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom. The same price applies to the Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV upgrade, suggesting a potential U.S. price of $19.99.
The higher upgrade cost could be attributed to the premium pricing of the full Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of these games, which are set at $79.99 each. In contrast, the original Switch versions of both Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are priced at $59.99.
For gamers opting not to upgrade, here's the cost of the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games in the U.S.:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World - $79.99
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $69.99
Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV - $79.99
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $79.99
It's worth noting that Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack subscribers can access the upgrade packs for Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom at no additional cost. Unfortunately, no such offer is currently available for Kirby or Super Mario Party Jamboree.
On another note, pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 opened on April 24, with the console priced at $449.99. The pre-order process was highly competitive, and Nintendo has advised U.S. customers who pre-ordered through the My Nintendo Store that delivery on the release date is not guaranteed due to overwhelming demand.
