Hotta Studios is gearing up to launch the very first closed beta test for their much-anticipated 3D open-world RPG, Neverness to Everness. Unfortunately, eager fans outside of mainland China won't be able to participate in this initial testing phase, as the beta is exclusively set to take place within the region.
According to Gematsu, the latest lore updates for Neverness to Everness have been revealed, although those familiar with the trailers showcasing the city of Eibon won't find the new details too surprising. The game promises a slightly more comedic narrative tone, with intriguing glimpses into how the bizarre and the everyday coexist in the world of Hetherau.
Hotta Studios, a subsidiary of Perfect World—the creators behind the successful Tower of Fantasy—is bringing their expertise to the 3D RPG genre, which has been increasingly embracing urban settings. Neverness to Everness distinguishes itself with unique features like open-world driving. Thrill-seekers can look forward to speeding through the city streets at night, customizing various vehicles, though they must be wary of realistic crash consequences.
Upon its full release, Neverness to Everness will enter a highly competitive market. It will face challenges not only from MiHoYo's Zenless Zone Zero, which has set the bar high for mobile 3D open-world RPGs, but also from NetEase's Ananta (formerly known as Project Mugen), developed by Naked Rain, which is set to explore a similar urban RPG landscape.
