Neil Druckmann: No Bets on The Last of Us Part 3

Author : Logan Jun 29,2025

If you're a devoted *The Last of Us* fan eagerly awaiting news that Naughty Dog is developing a Part 3, today brings some discouraging updates. Neil Druckmann, the creative force behind the franchise, has cast serious doubt on the likelihood of a third installment ever coming to fruition.

In a recent interview with *Variety*, much of which focused on the upcoming second season of the HBO television adaptation, Druckmann was eventually asked about the possibility of *The Last of Us Part 3*. His response was notably definitive:

“I was waiting for this question,” he said with a sigh. “I guess the only thing I would say is don’t bet on there being more of *‘Last of Us.’* This could be it.”

PlayOf course, whether or not fans take this statement at face value remains up for debate. Naughty Dog is currently deep into development on *Intergalactic*, a title announced at The Game Awards last December. With no official release window yet in sight, it's clear the studio is years away from completion on that front. Given their current trajectory, it seems unlikely the team has bandwidth for another major entry in the *Last of Us* saga anytime soon.

It’s possible Druckmann is simply playing his cards close to his chest, or perhaps he's just not ready to make any promises. Either way, time will tell if his stance softens—or if he sticks to this final farewell.

For those still hungry for more *Last of Us* content, Season 2 of the acclaimed TV series is set to premiere on April 13 on Max. While Druckmann himself expressed uncertainty about how many seasons it might take to fully adapt the events of *Part 2*, an HBO executive previously suggested that four total seasons should be sufficient to bring the entire story to a close.
