Player First Games announced the bittersweet news that MultiVersus Season 5 will be its last, bringing the curtain down on the Warner Bros. platform fighter on May 30, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST. The studio detailed the discontinuation of support in a blog post on their website. Launched on May 28, 2024, MultiVersus will enter its final season, Season 5, starting February 4th, concluding its run in May 2025. Online play will cease at that time, but players will retain access to all earned and purchased content offline via local and training modes.

The MultiVersus team expressed their gratitude: “Most importantly, we want to thank every player and person who has ever played or supported MultiVersus. All of us on the Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games teams have poured our heart and soul into this game. We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey.”

Real-money transactions have ended, but Gleamium and character tokens can still be used to unlock in-game content until May 30th. The game will be delisted from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store concurrently.

MultiVersus’ closure follows reports characterizing the project as a significant financial setback for Warner Bros. Discovery. A November financial call revealed the game underperformed expectations, leading to a roughly $100 million writedown for their games sector, adding to a $300 million total following the launch of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League in January. Further compounding matters, Variety reported last week that Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad would be departing the company after a challenging 2024.

"We took another $100 million plus impairment due to the underperforming releases, primarily MultiVersus this quarter, bringing total writedown year-to-date to over $300 million in our games business, a key factor in this year’s studio profit decline,” CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels stated during the November call.

Despite the impending shutdown just days after its first anniversary, Season 5 promises a strong send-off. Alongside standard seasonal content, new characters Lola Bunny and Aquaman will join the roster. Lola Bunny will be unlockable via daily calendar rewards, while Aquaman will be available through the battle pass, both launching next week.
